Annual reports are too thick and they are not easy to read. We don't know how investors are reading the annual reports (which pages do they turn to first?), we don't know what pages they are reading, and we don't know how much time they spend on each page of the annual report. It's like a buffet - if you don't know what's popular (as shown by empty containers) you won't know what dishes to replenish and what not to cook. Annual reports are now a one-way street. We need to know what's being read (consumed) and what's being ignored so that we can improve the annual reports.
With this as a challenge, Black Sun embarked on a 10-month research project with the School of Information Systems at the Singapore Management University (SMU) to develop a solution that could help companies understand how to improve their annual reports. As a result of the Black Sun-SMU research, we developed the Annual Report Explorer (ARE). The ARE prototype is a platform that allows companies to track and analyse the behaviour of investors and other stakeholders on how they read annual reports.
The Annual Report Explorer prototype will be shared with participants at this workshop. We will be sharing insights into the research journey and the challenges encountered in developing the ARE. This will help companies understand the key issues as they seek to discover how to improve their own annual reports.
This event is complimentary for IRPAS members and only S$30 for non-members. Register early to secure your place!
